The Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID), through its ICT Team, undertook border assessment visits as part of the Department’s ongoing digital reform programme aimed at modernizing immigration operations and strengthening border management across Sierra Leone.
On Friday, 27 February 2026, the SLID ICT Team visited the Sierra Leone–Guinea border along the Koinadugu/Falaba axis to assess field conditions and engage officers on the digitalization of immigration processes. As part of the same mission, the team also visited the Sierra Leone–Liberia border at Baidu, Dawa Main Crossing Point in Kailahun District.
The assessment mission was carried out to review the readiness of selected border crossing points for digital border reporting and related immigration technology improvements. The visit focused on understanding the current reporting environment, examining operational workflows, identifying infrastructure and connectivity needs, and engaging frontline personnel on the practical requirements for future digital systems.
During the field mission, the ICT Team interacted with officers and relevant stakeholders at the border posts to better understand on-the-ground realities and ensure that the Department’s digital reform agenda is informed by operational experience. This field-based approach is essential to developing solutions that are practical, responsive, and aligned with the needs of officers working in frontline border environments.
The mission forms part of SLID’s broader efforts to modernize immigration service delivery through technology, improved reporting systems, stronger data management, and better operational coordination. By carrying out technical assessments at key entry and exit points, the Department continues to lay the foundation for more efficient, secure, and accountable border management.
The Sierra Leone Immigration Department remains committed to advancing reforms that strengthen national border operations and improve the delivery of immigration services through carefully planned and sustainable digital transformation.
