The Sierra Leone Immigration Department has launched its first-ever induction training program aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of its operations and equipping staff with the skills and knowledge necessary to perform their duties professionally.
During the opening ceremony, the Director of Training, AIG Sahr Senesie, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of professionalism throughout the training process. He highlighted the critical role of the Immigration Department as a key state institution and underscored the need for such comprehensive training initiatives.
The Chief Immigration Officer, Hon. Alusine Kanneh, addressed the attendees, recognizing the importance of border management in regulating the movement of people in and out of the country. He noted that the induction training seeks to create strategic plans for staff development, including recruitment, performance management, and training to meet the operational needs of the department.
“The induction training also reviews the overall staff deployment plan to ensure alignment with operational demands,” he stated.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Aiah Edward Samadia, launched the program, commending the Immigration Department for its role in national security. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the department in the past and expressed optimism about its progress under current leadership. He noted that the training curriculum combines theoretical and practical components, covering topics such as laws, immigration policies, procedures, departmental functions, and organizational structures.
The training also focuses on fostering discipline and commitment to public service while incorporating practical exercises, such as foot drills, tactical training, physical fitness, and first aid. Additionally, management workshops and leadership training sessions are included to enhance the supervisory and leadership capabilities of immigration officers.
